President Ram Baran Yadav has summoned representatives of all parties for a meeting on Monday morning.
Earlier in the week, chairmen of the three major parties had met the president to assure him that they would reach consensus before the fifth deadline on Saturday. But with Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai adamant to stay in power, contrary to the designs of his party’s chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, all negotiations have stalled.
Saturday was the fifth deadline ever since the president first set a date on November 23 for the parties to forge an agreement to provide relief to the current political deadlock.
The president is scheduled for an official visit to India and will fly to Delhi on Monday.
