The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has refuted the accusation that it gave a clean chit to the political leadership while filing the case related to the Sudan scam at the Special Court.

At a press meet here on Wednesday, the Commission Secretary Bhagawati Kumar Kafle pledged to bring the political leaders to justice if they are found guilty in the multi-million dollar scandal.

The anti-graft body had filed a case against 34 incumbent and retired police officials and two suppliers accusing them of misappropriating Rs 288 million while purchasing armoured personnel carriers and other logistics for the Nepal Police peace keeping mission in Darfur of Sudan.

“We could not file a case against the political leadership as the field study did not provide any evidence of corruption against them”, said Secretary Kafle.

Meanwhile, the meeting of the Legislature-Parliament’s State Affairs Committee today accused the CIAA of giving a clean chit to the leadership, after concluding that embezzlement of millions of dollar was not possible without the support from the political leadership.

Acting upon the case, the Court today has issued an order in the name of defendants to be present themselves in the Court within the next 15 days.
