Nepal beats Bhutan in football

The Nepalese football team restored some lost pride beating Bhutan in match of its group at the Bangabandu National Stadium on Wednesday. Nepal had lost two earlier matches against Bangladesh and Maldives. In Wednesday’s match, Striker Anil Gurung scored two goals in the 35th and 73rd minute.

Judo team returns

Nepali judo team returned home on Wednesday, with four bronze medals. Some of the players from the seven-member team were injured in an elevator accident in Dhaka Wednesday. Judoka Debu Thapa participated in the Games despite injury and went on to win a bronze. (PHOTOS: AHMAD ISKANDAR)


Nepal’s new hockey record

Nepal lost its fourth consecutive and the last hockey match to host Bangladesh 0-24 today. With Wednesday’s loss, Nepal has broken its own record. It conceded 79 goals in four matches and could score only goal. In  1995 SAG, Nepal had conceded 54 goals, while scoring none.

The second day of the South Asian Games ended on a dismal note as Nepal’s men’s football team went down against host Bangladesh 3-0 at Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday evening.

A win for Bangladesh

Nepal lost to the host, Bangladesh, by 3-0 in men’s football match that took place in Dhaka Saturday evening. Bangladesh scored a goal in the first seven minutes of the game.
Nepal is considered a strong contender in its group that includes Bhutan, Maldives and Bangladesh. Nepal will play against Maldives on 1 February.

Surprise blow for India

India, everyone’s favorite to win in almost every sporting categories in the South Asian Games, suffered a surprise blow in men’s football from Afghanistan.
India fielded under-19 teams against Afghanistan’s under-23 at MA Aziz Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday expecting a clean victory but lost the game by a goal, scored by Afghani midfielder Belal Arizou.

Gold medal hopeful unable to participate

More on the elevator accident which injured nine Nepali players on Friday:
Among the injured were Debu Thapa, a gold medal hopeful in judo. She won a silver medal in the 10th South Asian Games. She has sustained shoulder injuries and will be unable to participate in the games.
