Nepal beats Bhutan in football

The Nepalese football team restored some lost pride beating Bhutan in match of its group at the Bangabandu National Stadium on Wednesday. Nepal had lost two earlier matches against Bangladesh and Maldives. In Wednesday’s match, Striker Anil Gurung scored two goals in the 35th and 73rd minute.

Nepal’s new hockey record

Nepal lost its fourth consecutive and the last hockey match to host Bangladesh 0-24 today. With Wednesday’s loss, Nepal has broken its own record. It conceded 79 goals in four matches and could score only goal. In  1995 SAG, Nepal had conceded 54 goals, while scoring none.

Nepal defeated Sri Lanka 8-0 in a women’s football match played at Bandabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.

Except in judo, Nepal’s lackluster performance in 11th South Asian Games continued on the 4th day of the Games on Monday.
Nepal’s Rajan Joshi won a bronze in 100 plus weight category in judo. Joshi won against an Afghanistan player but lost to Pakistan and Bangladesh judokas.

Surprise blow for India

India, everyone’s favorite to win in almost every sporting categories in the South Asian Games, suffered a surprise blow in men’s football from Afghanistan.
India fielded under-19 teams against Afghanistan’s under-23 at MA Aziz Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday expecting a clean victory but lost the game by a goal, scored by Afghani midfielder Belal Arizou.

SAG kicks off

South Asian Games 2010 have officially begun. Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed inaugurated the 11th South Asian Games at Banga Bandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on Friday evening.
Hasina’s address followed a two-hour long opening ceremony, including lighting of the torch.
