Two more bronze for Nepal

The hope of winning gold and silver medals in wushu went down the drain after Alina Chaudhary and Jharana Gurung lost their semi-final matches against India. Alina was defeated  0-2 by Sonakher Devi in 48kg and Jharana lost by same score to Sandhya Devi in 6o kg sansau event in Sylhet. With the losses, both players had to be content with just bronze medals.

The bronze medals from Alina and Jharana has propped up Nepal’s tally to 11 bronze. Nepal is at the 6th spot in the medal table, while Afghanistan that started participating in the Games in 2004 is at the 5th position.

Nepal’s boxing campaign in the SAG began with a loss at the Mohammad Ali Boxing Hall in Dhaka. Sachin Raut lost to Mohammad Arif of Afghanistan in 48kg light flyweight. Raut suffered defeat during the third round when referee stopped the contest.

Host Bangladesh mauled Nepal 42-11 in the handball match played for the bronze medal. With the loss Nepal finished at 4th place in the six-team handball event, included for the first time in SAG.

Nepal also lost to Bangladesh in the basketball match played for the bronze 62-75. Nepal was neck to neck with the host until the third quarter. The loss condemned the Nepali team to the 4th spot place in basketball, also included for the first time in SAG.
