Nepali shooters miss mark

Nepal finished at the bottom in shooting’s 10-metre air pistol event in the 11th South Asian Games.

Out of five teams, Nepali men’s team took the last spot. Nepali shooter Badaruddin Ansari scroed 549 points out of 600 while Sudhan Khadka accumulated 541 points. Anil Thakuri finished last among his teammates with 520.

Nepal was 106 points behind gold medal winners from India who scored 1716.

Even though they finished at the bottom of the table, Nepali shooters qualified for the individual event of 10-meter air pistol. Top eight shooters of the team event qualify for the individual events.

Nepali men’s team had won a bronze medal in 10-metre air rifle team event on Wednesday.

Nepali shooter Badaruddin Ansari said the loss was mainly due to lack of experience and exposure in international tournaments. “This is the first tournament we have participated in since 2006 when 10th SAG was held,” he said.
