Nepali shuttlers claimed two bronze medals in both men’s and women’s team events at the South Asian Games in Dhaka on Thursday. With two medals in badminton, Nepal’s total medal tally has reached to nine bronze medals. Earlier Nepal won four bronze medals in judo, one in shooting and two in kabaddi.
Nepali teams hope to win some gold and silver medals in the martial arts events, which will start in the city of Sylhet on Friday. Even before the start of the matches, Nepal has been assured at least a medal in wushu. Santosh Rijal received a bye in wushu’s 70kg category Sansau event and entered the semi-final. This is Rijal’s first time in the South Asian Games.
In squash, Nepal lost to Pakistan 3-0 in men’s team event. Nepali squash players Heera Bahadur Thapa, Sudip Bahadur Singh and Suresh Kumar Gurung lost to Pakistani players Farhan Mehaboob, Mansur Jamal and Farhan Jamal respectively.
