Rana palaces after the earthquake

Many of the Rana palaces that were converted to government buildings were heavily damaged by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake on 25 April. Photographer Bikram Rai captures the crumbling palaces of the bygone era.

Harihar Bhawan in Pulchok which houses  Another former Rana palace, the Harihar Bhawan complex in Pulchowk that houses the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Nepal National Library and the Departments of Agriculture and Livestock Services has also got a red sticker.

Babar Mahal another Rana palace was further damaged by the aftershock on 12 May.

Sita Mahal commonly known as Bal Mandir was also decalred unsafe. The front face is severely damaged while the right wing has completely collapsed.

    Rana’s palace are very old so mostly palaces are destroyed by this earthquake
